Another Popi Update

He is doing much better now. He is off of the Ventilator and out of the ICU!!!  He is in a step down unit in Philly and talking and eating and moving all his important parts.

It'll be a while before we know whether there will be any long term effects, but for now everything looks great.

Thanks - Popi update

David is also Emily's Popi.  I finally figured out that was the Keyword to type to find the pictures of him for my last Journal post.

He is making steady, if slow, progress.  He opened his eyes again today, looked at pictures of his Grandaughters (that made him smile) and talked as best he could past his breathing tube.  He asked about Leah's Doctor's appointment tomorrow, so he very clearly knows where he is and what is going on around him.

They've had to keep him from pulling his breathing tube out with his hands. I think they'll give it another try this afternoon.

Visiting hours are every two hours for 1/2 hour - so 12 - 12:30, 2 - 2:30, 4- 4:30 and 6 - 6:30

Only two people can visit at a time, although ocassionally they let you get away with three. For the most part that means Rachel, Stephanie and their mother, Carol are the ones who do the visiting.  I've been back a few times too.

In between visits we've been getting to know this little corner of Philly, eating cheesesteaks, and playing games to keep busy.

These are the photos:

Send Positive Thoughts and Prayers

My father-in-law, David Goldstein suffered a serious stroke Thursday afternoon.  Rachel and I are in New Jersey with her family.  David is in Philadelphia recovering at Thomas Jefferson Hospital's Neurosciences Unit.  He was airlifted there for an experimental procedure that it turns out, fortunately, he didn't need.

He's progressing slowly but impressively.  Over the last 48 hours he's been able to respond to painful stimulation, then to verbal commands. Yesterday he was able to talk and knew he was in the hospital in 2005.  This morning he opened his eyes and touched his finger to his nose.

He was briefly off of the ventilator but is now back on . . . but sometimes a few steps forward are followed by a step back.  We're confident he'll keep moving in the right direction.

Here's David . . .

Check out my real life friend Jill

She just got her own buzznet page.  She was on the trip to Victoria with me.  These are her best pics (that is, the ones with me in them).

She needs some buzznet friends.
